About

Blythe Scott was born in 1969 in Glasgow, Scotland, to a father who studied Drawing & Painting and a mother who studied Textiles at the prestigious Glasgow School of Art. Following in their footsteps, Blythe also attended GSA where she graduated with an honours degree in EWT in 1991. She then went on to achieve a post graduate diploma with distinction in Art & Design Education from Strathclyde University.

Since then, she has travelled to and lived in various cities around the world and has worked as a decorative artist in Paris, gallery assistant in Canada and a passionate teacher of adults and children as far away as Tokyo. In spite of her wanderlust and diverse background, making art has persisted as her one constant passion and purpose.

Today, her time is entirely devoted to producing mixed media art, intended to uplift, delight and intrigue. Having been equally exposed to the worlds of Art & Design when growing up, her approach seems to bridge both camps. She uses acrylics, mixed media, collage and metal leaf to create unique surfaces and artworks that are mainly inspired by Scotland's cities, coastline and countryside. She is best known for her expressive cityscapes, romantic dreamscapes, quirky harbours and her outlandish Hootenanny series.

Blythe has been represented by premium international galleries over the years and has participated in many solo and group shows on both sides of the Atlantic. Her pieces are featured in private and corporate collections in North America, Asia, the UK, mainland Europe and Australia.

In 2024, Blythe decided to return to her native Scotland where she now works from her studio in Melrose in the beautiful Scottish Borders. Her originals and prints are available from her studio by appointment, by private commission and via select art galleries and outlets throughout Scotland.
