The Japanese call fireworks 'hanabi', meaning fire flower. This is not only because they look like flowers but the name also relates to the fleeting bloom of fireworks.
This is a joyful and expressive mixed media painting based upon a dramatic firework display over Edinburgh Castle. This work features considerable collage, small embedded objects and high key colour applied thickly with a palette knife. The Castle is brought to our attention further with a lavish use of 24k gold leaf which describes the skyline.
